Helpful Tips when Applying for Benefits

​The DCF Self-Service Portal is how you can access your benefit case information online.  Submitting your application online through the DCF Self-Service Portal is recommended. If you would like a paper application, please visit your local DCF office  or call 1-888-369-4777.

You may apply online through the DCF Self-Service Portal for the following DCF services. 

Tips for Using the DCF Self-Service Portal​​
  • To create a new account, you will need your date of birth and your Social Security number.
  • If you forget your username or password, you may request to reset them.
  • You will need to provide your date of birth and Social Security number to reset your username or password.
  • If you previously set up a Self-Service Portal account and are unable to access it, you can create a new account and link your case number(s).

  • When you start filling out the online application and need to stop, you should protect your information from being seen by non-authorized persons by clicking on the Log Out button. This will allow you to come back and finish the application later. Also, if you are filling out the online application in a public location, do not leave the computer while you are filling out the form because your information could be seen by non-authorized persons.

  • The Self-Assessment and Online Application have been developed and tested using JAWS. If your browser does not support scripting, you may not be able to complete these forms online. As an alternative, you may access a computer at your local library, contact your local DCF Service Center​ or call toll free at 1-888-369-4777. ​

  • It is recommended that you use one of the internet browsers listed below when using the DCF Online Application. Other browsers may cause issues with the screen display:
    • Microsoft Edge – 113.0.1774.50
    • Firefox – 111.0.1
    • Google Chrome – 113.0.5672.127
    • Latest supported version of Google Chrome for Android handheld devices.
    • Latest supported version of Safari for iOS handheld devices.

When applying for benefits online or submitting a paper application, it is important to provide the required information and verifications to determine eligibility and benefit amounts.​

Child Support Services
You may apply for Child Support Services online at cssapply.dcf.ks.gov. For more information, visit Child Support Services​.

KanCare
KanCare offers medical coverage for children, pregnant women, families with children, adults 65 and over, adults with disabilities, and children with disabilities. KanCare benefits are not administered through DCF.

Visit the Medical Online Application and Self-Assessment tool to help determine which services you may qualify for. You may apply for medical assistance online through the KanCare Self-Service Portal.  Click here for assistance with applying.

Other benefits and services related to mental illness and substance abuse are available through the Kansas Department for Aging and Disability Services.
