Basic Needs

When it comes to supporting Kansans, we know everyone has different needs. We try to meet every Kansans where they are, no matter the situation, need or circumstance.

DCF Economic & Employment Services (EES) supports Kansans through programs that connect them and their families with food resources, child care assistance, energy assistance, family resource centers and other types of support. Some services may have restrictions or requirements on who is eligible, while others are available to all Kansans. Our communities are stronger when everyone has access to the support they need to thrive.

DCF provides several programs and resources to help meet the food needs in our communities.

Cash Assistance is also known as Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF). Our Whole Family Services unit offers employment services and supports to low-income families.

Child Care Assistance helps pay for child care costs and helps many types of families. Child Care and Early Education resources are also available.

The Low Income Energy Assistance Program (LIEAP) is a federally funded program that helps eligible households pay a portion of their home energy costs during the winter by providing a one-time per year benefit.

In addition to state and federal assistance programs administered by DCF, many helping organizations are available to assist Kansans.

Visit the DCF Self-Service Portal to apply for EES benefits or manage your case online. Additional information about applying for EES benefits can be found on our Helpful Tips page.
