Under federal and state law, parents have a legal duty to provide financial and medical support for their children. Once a child support order is in place, child support continues to be owed until it is paid in full.
An order for child support does not guarantee that child support will be paid each month; therefore, CSS continuously monitors and reports non-paying individuals for administrative actions. After 90 days of non-payment with past due support (arrears) exceeding $500, individuals who owe support are subject to restrictions and suspensions.
CSS offers an
incentive program for individuals who owe past-due (arrears) child support to the State of Kansas. By participating in the incentive program, individuals can reduce their past-due child support amount by up to $4,500.
