DCF Partners with HealthSource Integrated Solutions to Support Kansas Family Mobile Crisis Response Services

10/22/2026

Topeka, Kan. – The Kansas Department for Children and Families (DCF) announced today a partnership with HealthSource Integrated Solutions, a mental health non-profit headquartered in Topeka, to build on the work already underway through the statewide Family Mobile Crisis Helpline to ensure Kansas families and youth can continue to access rapid, community-based care when they need it most.

The Family Mobile Crisis Helpline serves as a centralized crisis hotline and coordinates services through the Kansas Mobile Response Stabilization Model. Available to all Kansans age 20 and younger, the program helps children and families receive care in their homes and communities whenever appropriate, reducing the need for more restrictive interventions, such as hospitalization or out-of-home placement.

The contract with HealthSource Integrated Solutions was awarded following a competitive request for proposals process conducted in late 2025. The agreement includes an initial three-year term that began May 1, 2026, with options to renew for two additional one-year periods. During the transition period, HealthSource Integrated Solutions and incumbent contractor, Carelon Behavioral Health, have been working together to ensure continuity of services. HealthSource Integrated Solutions will assume full responsibility for mobile crisis response services Nov. 1, 2026.

Services provided under the contract include:

  • A centralized behavioral health crisis helpline
  • Screening and mobile response stabilization services available 24 hours a day, seven days a week
  • Connections to community-based services and supports regardless of where a crisis occurs

“When a child or youth is experiencing an emotional or behavioral health crisis, families need support they can reach quickly. Through mobile crisis response services, we can help families access timely support, reducing the need for more restrictive interventions and connecting them to care in their own communities,” said DCF Secretary Laura Howard. “We look forward to partnering with HealthSource Integrated Solutions to provide access to these critical services and improve outcomes for children and families across Kansas.”

Kenneth C. Johnson, CEO, HealthSource Integrated Solutions, said his team is honored to partner with DCF in expanding access to critical crisis services for children, youth, and families across Kansas.

“The Family Mobile Crisis Support Helpline represents an important investment in ensuring families can access timely, compassionate, and clinically appropriate support when they need it most.” Johnson said. “At HealthSource Integrated Solutions, our goal has always been to connect Kansans with the right care at the right time. We look forward to

leveraging our experience in crisis response, care coordination, and statewide service delivery to help strengthen the behavioral health safety net and improve outcomes for children and families.”

DCF established the Family Mobile Crisis Helpline in 2021. It is available to families by calling 1-833-441-2240.
