Maintaining the accuracy of your reported information is part of what makes these benefits possible for eligible Kansans. Errors and misreported information show up as discrepancies that may negatively impact DCF’s ability to provide future funding and benefits. That is why it is so important to keep your information up to date.

DCF administers valuable assistance programs to help families and individuals. To ensure these benefits are received by Kansans who need them, our Fraud Investigation Unit investigates and prevents fraudulent use of benefit funds.

DCF also has access to tools and systems that can provide information on a household’s income, resources, and assets. It is in the household’s best interest to report all necessary information so eligibility and benefit amount can be determined accurately. Remember to report changes for everyone who is on your assistance case or whose income is counted in determining eligibility, including children’s income and their resources, like bank accounts.

In Kansas, the SNAP Food Assistance program has a Quality Assurance (QA) unit that makes sure Kansas families receive the correct amount of SNAP benefits on time and that applications are approved or denied correctly. SNAP QA reviews are required by federal law and are part of the USDA Food and Nutrition Service’s system of measuring the accuracy of state eligibility and benefit determinations. Data collected by SNAP QA reviews are also used for program improvement and analysis.
  • Certain changes MUST be reported to DCF to keep benefit amounts accurate. Failure to report changes may result in a household having to repay benefits or a benefit fraud investigation.

If the agency discovers that the household has failed to report a change and, as a result, received benefits to which it was not entitled, a repayment claim shall be filed against the household.

To ensure benefits are received by Kansans who need them, the Fraud Investigations Unit investigates and prevents fraudulent use of benefit funds. Anyone found guilty of intentionally obtaining benefits for which they are not entitled will be barred from receiving assistance in accordance with program guidelines and may also be subject to a fine, imprisonment, or both.
