Newsroom Secretary Siedlecki visits Larned State Hospital, Great Bend service center

SRS Secretary Rob Siedlecki recently toured Larned State Hospital alongside local elected officials and employees.

During the tour, the Secretary put to rest pervasive rumors about closure plans for the facility, instead affirming he wants every available position at the facility filled.

“Larned State Hospital is a first-class facility and I was glad to visit and tour,” Secretary Siedlecki said. “My goal was to see how everything runs. SRS wants to run more efficient and more effective while delivering the highest quality services. I want open communication and I will come back to Larned if I have to.”

SRS Secretary Rob Siedlecki, left, with Senator Allen Schmidt, D-Hays and Larned Interim Superintendent Christopher Burke.

Employees expressed a number of concerns about everything from a lack of utilization of available bed space, to a phone system in the sexual predator treatment program that may not have adequate restrictions. The Secretary promised to look into the issues and address them with the Kansas Legislature in January if necessary.

While in the area, the Secretary took advantage of an opportunity to tour the Great Bend SRS Service Center. The 50 employees at the Great Bend Service Center welcomed the chance to hear the secretary speak and were excited to meet him as he toured the office, as was the Secretary.

“I love getting out here and meeting our hardworking employees,” Secretary Siedlecki said.
