Topeka – The Department of Social and Rehabilitation Services (SRS) offices
located in Wamego and Abilene will close effective April 30, 2010.
The decision to close the offices was made as part of ongoing efforts to
provide services and supports to Kansans in need through the most efficient and
cost effective means. The Wamego and Abilene locations were chosen for closure
due to small caseload sizes, close proximity to other SRS offices, and the
increased ability to provide services outside of the traditional office setting.
“We are really focusing on the idea of universal access – of being able to
serve our customers in non traditional ways. In many instances, customers can
contact their caseworkers online or by phone to apply for or manage services,”
said SRS Secretary Don Jordan. “The physical location of an office does not
hinder our ability to provide services.”
