Newsroom SRS announces new community provider for commodity program

Topeka – Effective October 1, 2008, Harvesters Community Food Network is the new provider of the Commodity Supplemental Food Program (CSFP) for the Shawnee county area.    We are pleased that Harvesters stepped forward to fulfill this important function following notice by Let’s Help that they would no longer be administering the program after September.  A formal bidding process will be conducted to select a long-term provider, effective July 2009..

CSFP provides a monthly package of United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) food commodities to eligible persons over age 60 and eligible women, infants, and children not receiving WIC vouchers.  This area’s CSFP caseload includes up to 1,413 mothers, infants, children and senior citizens on low or fixed incomes.  

 Harvesters will distribute the Shawnee County October CSFP food at Let’s Help Inc., 215 SW Quincy, in Topeka. CSFP recipients were informed of distribution times and lcoation by postcard.  Information regarding the November distribution site, which will not be at Let’s Help, will also be provided by postcard

October CSFP food will be distributed at Let’s Help at these regularly scheduled dates and times. 

Oct 14th - 7:00am – 9:30am
Oct 15th - 7:00am – 9:30am
Oct 16th - 3:00pm – 5:00pm

Changes to the CSFP, also known as the “Tan Card” by former Let’s Help customers, affect distribution to recipients residing in Shawnee, Douglas, Jefferson, Osage, Pottawatomie, Jackson, Franklin, Riley, Atchison, and Wabaunsee Counties.
