Newsroom SRS Creates New Position to Address Forensic Services

Topeka - Kansas Department of Social and Rehabilitation Services Secretary Gary Daniels is pleased to announce the creation of a new position within SRS. Leslie Huss has been named the new Coordinator of Forensic Services. Huss previously held the position of Central Office Coordinator for the Sexual Predator Treatment Program at Larned State Hospital.
“This position addresses the concerns expressed to SRS from the mental health and forensic communities,” said Secretary Daniels. “SRS will work closely with the other state agencies to make sure those people who are transitioning from corrections facilities and have mental health needs receive the proper services.”
“It’s imperative we work together to make these transitions as simple as possible,” said Governor Kathleen Sebelius. “I appreciate the cooperation and teamwork that went into developing this position that will help those involved as well as the communities in which they live.”

The position is the result of many discussions with the Governor’s Mental Health planning council and legislators. Huss will work closely with the Department of Corrections and Juvenile Justice Authority to develop processes for mental health treatment in correction facilities. She will also help to connect those who are leaving the prison system with community supports and services to make sure they are receiving the appropriate treatment.
“This is a big step forward for the forensic community,” said Huss. “I’m looking forward to this important new challenge.”
