Newsroom Atchison DCF Worker Named Agency’s Employee of the Year

Kansas Department for Children and Families (DCF) Secretary Phyllis Gilmore is pleased to announce the 2016 DCF Employee of the Year. Stacey Kentzler, a Human Services Specialist, received the surprise news during a reception Friday, Feb. 3, in Atchison, where she works.
“It is always an honor to recognize employees like Stacey who wake up every morning and ask themselves how they can make Kansas a better, safer place for the children and families we serve,” Secretary Gilmore said. “Stacey’s hard work and commitment exemplify what it means to be a public servant, and we are grateful for her numerous contributions to our agency.”

On Friday, Kentzler walked into a conference room at the Atchison DCF service center, at 410 Commerical St. The room was full of her colleagues and family to congratulate her for the honor. During the reception, Secretary Gilmore presented Kentzler with certificate and plaque, along with a $1,000 cash prize.

Previously, Kentzler was named Employee of the Quarter, for which she attended a ceremony in May, with Governor Sam Brownback and other recipients of the honor from numerous State agencies.

Kentzler has been employed with the State of Kansas for 27 years, much of that time has been spent assisting clients at DCF (previously SRS). In her current role, she helps process applications for food, child care and cash assistance. She also recently helped process Medicaid applications.

“It’s a great honor. I’m really blessed to work for this agency,” Kentzler said. “Great people work here, and we’re just like a big family. It’s great to be able to help people.”

In her spare time, Kentzler and her husband, Mike, enjoy traveling and spending time with family.

Four other finalists were considered for the award: (listed including the DCF region in which they work): Colleen Quinn, Wichita, Wichita Region, Economic and Employment Services; Angela Neal, Topeka, Administration, Economic and Employment Services; Denise Voss, Colby, West Region, Prevention and Protection Services; Leann Cochran, Topeka, East Region, Legal
