TOPEKA – Kansas Department of Social and Rehabilitation
Services Secretary Phyllis Gilmore announced today the appointment of Thomas
Kinlen to serve as Interim Superintendent of Larned State Hospital. Dr. Kinlen
takes the place of Christopher Burke, who resigned Monday.
Dr. Kinlen has a PhD in Clinical Psychology from Sam Houston
State University in Huntsville, Texas. He has served as Director of Psychology
at Larned State Hosptial since September, 2008. A member of the American
Psychological Association and the American-Psychology Law Society, Dr. Kinlen is
the author of numerous articles in learned professional journals regarding
forensics and psychology.
He will begin his duties immediately.
“We are fortunate that Thomas Kinlen was on board and able to
step in, on an interim basis, while we conduct a nationwide search for a new
permanent superintendent,” Secretary Gilmore said. “His credentials are
impeccable and he has been on staff at Larned State Hospital since 2003, so he
is familiar with our personnel and our challenges.”
“I would like to thank Chris Burke, who is leaving to pursue
other career opportunities, for his service to the hospital and to the state,”
Secretary Gilmore added.
