Newsroom Wichita’s DCF Office Preparing for Move

TOPEKA –Kansas Department for Children and Families (DCF) clients may begin noticing moving vans around the Finney State Office Building in downtown Wichita, but client services will continue at the location until Aug. 31. That’s when Wichita’s DCF service center will officially open its doors at the new location, 2601 S. Oliver St., Wichita.

“We appreciate the help of the City and the patience of our clients as we have prepared for this transition,” DCF Wichita Regional Director Bill Gale said. “We are excited to welcome clients and staff to this new facility. They can look forward to improved parking, security and convenience.”

The new location, formerly the United States Postal Remote Encoding Center, is ADA-compliant and features a single story with improved lighting and work spaces for employees. Safe and free parking is available for clients.

The new 97,532 square feet facility required approximately four months of renovation. The move will create a 28 percent reduction in space and an $8 to $10 million-cost savings over the 20-year lease period. The space reduction will be realized through an improved, single-floor layout. No staffing levels have been reduced by the move.

“We want to relay to the public that this should be a seamless transition to the new location,” Gale said. “We are moving staff incrementally, beginning this week. But clients should not report to the Oliver location until Aug. 31.”

The agency will continue to communicate details about the move through messaging on and in the Finney State Office Building. Social media messages about the move will also be utilized. Information about the move will be shared with local community partners, including employment-readiness programs and temporary shelters. We appreciate the help of local media in communicating this information as well.

The new facility is located on the South Broadway Loop of the Wichita City Transit, between major stops 2 and 3. The route runs south on Oliver, along the east end of the DCF location. The drop-off point for the bus is at the northeast corner of the DCF lot. During peak hours, a bus will pass every 30 minutes. During non-peak hours, buses pass every hour. Additional information about the bus route is available by calling 316-265-7221 or visiting

DCF currently utilizes a post office box for mailing in the Wichita area. This address will continue to be available following the move; however, after Aug. 31, paperwork can also be mailed directly to the Oliver location.
