Newsroom Wichita DCF Employees Present Check to Wichita Children’s Home

TOPEKA – Kansas Department for Children and Families (DCF) staff visited the Wichita Children’s Home Wednesday afternoon, to present the organization with a check for $668. Staff members raised the money during the 2014 DCF Charity Championship that coincided with the basketball tournament in March and April.
“We are so grateful for the support we receive from DCF,” Wichita Children’s Home Executive Director Sarah Robinson said. “To know that the employees selected us as their designated charity means a so much.”
On April 9, the Wichita region was declared the 2014 DCF Charity Champion, after raising the most money in the 2014 DCF Charity Championship. During the days of the basketball tournament, DCF employees voluntarily made a minimum $3 donation so they could wear their University of Kansas, Kansas State University or Wichita State University team T-shirts, polos or sweatshirts. All money raised benefited four designated charities (one in each of the four DCF regions).
During Wednesday’s check presentation, DCF Secretary Phyllis Gilmore spoke about how the fundraiser served as a morale booster for employees while also helping deserving charities in the community.
“Our staff members demonstrate their compassion for others in their work and in their giving to worthy causes,” Secretary Gilmore said. “They also got the chance to show their team spirit.”
Wichita State Athletics expressed its appreciation for DCF employees and the community support it has received.
"We had a tremendous season, and that is due in large part to the outstanding support we received from fans, including DCF employees," Wichita State Director of Athletics Eric Sexton said. "And I can't think of a better organization to benefit from the DCF Charity Championship than the Wichita Children's Home; it's a wonderful organization that serves children who deserve a brighter future."
The Wichita Children’s Home provides emergency, temporary residential shelter for children in the Wichita community. The facility serves thousands of children every year.
