TOPEKA – Kansas Department for Children and Families (DCF) Secretary Phyllis Gilmore is pleased to announce that DCF employees have raised $12,642 for Project Topeka.
President of Project Topeka Dan Woodard received the contribution during a check presentation ceremony Friday morning on the 6th floor of the Docking Building, Topeka.
“We are delighted to support Project Topeka,” Secretary Gilmore said. “The money raised will allow area families to receive the help they need.”
Since 1986, Project Topeka Community Food Drive has provided food for hungry families through its annual February food collection effort. Since the initial collection drive, Project Topeka has collected 14.5 tons of food that has been distributed to seven local food banks.
“DCF (previously SRS) has always been a major contributor to this cause,” Woodard said. “The State employees’ continued generosity is very much appreciated by those we serve.” Woodard says State employees provide nearly half of all donations collected to Project Topeka. All contributions stay in the community.
